You Say Goodbye, I Say Hello...
"Hi. My name is Jeff Spanke. I was born in Evansville, Indiana on November 15th, 1983 at St. Mary's Hospital. I have a mom and a dad and a younger brother named Joe. He's nice but sometimes we don't get along too well." That was actually the first autobiographical account I ever crafted back in the late eighties. Since then, my brother and I have mended our relationship and are getting along splendidly. I still have both a mother and a father who no longer reside in Evansville, but rather occupy a rather cozy dwelling just north of Indianapolis. I graduated from Carmel High School in 2002 and from Purdue University in 2005 with honors degrees in Psychology and English. Following a short stint as a parking garage attendant, custodial service clerk, leasing consultant, and caregiver to one, Samuel Leeland Perin III (I needed small jobs before I got married and started grad school), the Mrs. and I got hitched and fled to Greece for two weeks where we treated ourselves to the finest vistas and Amstel Lights this side of Venus. Upon returning to luxurious West Lafayette, we settled into our current residence and commenced our happy life as a struggling couple humbly representing the excesses of the Y generation. Since I have always maintained a passion for psychology and identity issues as well as literature, it was a stretch for me to sign up for class covering the literature of young adult identity. But alas, posting I am. I think that's just about all for now. I look forward to the semester and getting to know all of you. OH YEAH, I took the liberty (as not doing would have rendered sleep a near impossibility last night) to investigate into the mysterious author of the books I read while in my YA class in high school. It turns out that while Go Ask Alice was published as having an anonymous author, the book's editor, Beatrice Sparks, is widely considered to be the writer of the text. She also "anonymously" wrote several other books including It Happened to Nancy, Annie's Baby, and Jay's Journal. Needless to say, I slept just fine last night.
